Digestive System and Liver Treatment at Loyola

Loyola’s Gastroenterology Division specializes in treating diseases of the gastrointestinal system, which includes the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, intestines and liver.

Our gastroenterology specialists perform more than 8,500 procedures yearly, including:
• Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
• Upper endoscopy for reflux problems
• Colon cancer screenings
• Therapy for obesity and malnutrition
• Tests to diagnose problems of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas

Our hepatology services (treatment and management of diseases of the liver) include:
• Evaluation for liver transplantation
• Liver transplants
• Continued care of liver transplant patients
• Treatment of hepatitis B and C
• Treatment of alcoholic and metabolic liver disease

Our gastroenterologists and hepatologists receive referrals from all over Chicagoland and surrounding states. Led by John Affronti, MD, professor, medicine, gastroenterology, and medical director, advanced endoscopy, our team is able to treat patients with complex conditions using specialized treatments and minimally invasive diagnostic tests such as EUS.

EUS is especially important because it spares the patient a surgical biopsy.
