Loyola University Health System's (Loyola) has the top heart program in Illinois and one of the finest in the nation. Its cardiologists provide medical expertise and treatment options that often are unavailable elsewhere. The cardiology group offers prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support of heart and vascular disease. These conditions include high blood pressure, heart attack, coronary artery and valve disease, heart failure, heart murmurs and abnormal heart rhythms. Loyola's heart specialists also treat adults with congenital heart disease. Diagnostic procedures span the full range, from cardiac stress testing to ultrasound of the heart.

Specialty Services
Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology
Loyola has one of the busiest and most highly regarded cardiac catheterization laboratories in the Midwest for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery and valve disease.

Electrophysiology
In one of the largest electrophysiology programs in the nation, Loyola physicians correct abnormal heartbeats using the most up-to-date, comfortable treatments, including pacemakers, defibrillators and radiofrequency ablation.

Heart Failure Program
To extend life and improve quality of life for individuals with heart failure, Loyola physicians tailor a range of treatment options, including drug therapy, biventricular pacing and verticular assist devices.

Research
Through basic science and clinical research in the Cardiovascular Institute, Loyola cardiologists, heart surgeons, pathologists and others work together to pursue improvement in heart health. Basic science studies include the causes and consequences of high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure; prevention of injury to the heart; gene therapy to prevent coronary atherosclerosis; and new drug treatments of coronary thrombosis and other blood coagulation disorders.
