Sixth annual Loyola tennis tournament supports pediatric research

MAYWOOD, Ill. (Aug. 20, 2015) – Loyola University Health System will host its sixth annual tennis tournament at the Oak Park Tennis Club in support of clinical research for children.

The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Oak Park Tennis Club, 544 N. Harlem Ave., River Forest. Finals will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The tournament raises money for research at the Ronald McDonald® Children’s Hospital at Loyola University Medical Center.

“This event brings together tennis enthusiasts and the Loyola family to enjoy an afternoon of fun and competitive tennis,” said Neeru Jayanthi, MD, event organizer and medical director of primary care sports medicine. "The tournament is available for all levels of players. We are especially excited to see junior competitive players involved, because in pediatrics research at Loyola, kids help kids.”

The round-robin tournament has two divisions: a junior/competitive division and an adult/recreational division. The format guarantees participants play all afternoon, but space is limited to 70 players.

“In addition to supporting research, this event helps bring awareness to the many services and leading-edge care provided by Loyola physicians and specialists,” said Jerold Stirling, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatrics. Trophies will be given to winning teams. Light refreshments will be served and tennis balls and T-shirts provided.

The entrance fee is $50 for non-student participants and $30 for students. For more information, email Chris Eggerding at ceggerd@lumc.edu; call (708) 327-9128; or register online.
