A planned gift can enable you to assist LUMC in our mission of patient care, research and education while also reducing your burden of income, capital gains or estate taxes. Many donors find that through a planned gift, they can make a larger contribution than they thought possible.

Planned gifts can include:

• Bequest: Name a charity as the beneficiary of your estate through your will.
• Life insurance: Contribute an insurance policy or name the charity as a primary or contingent beneficiary of the policy.
• Retirement assets: Name a charity as a beneficiary of retirement plan assets such as IRAs or 401(k) plans.
• Charitable remainder trust: Irrevocably transfer money, securities or other assets to a trust that will then pay you or another beneficiary an income for life or a period of years. At the death of the surviving beneficiary, the remaining principal in the trust goes to charity.
• Charitable gift annuity: In exchange for a gift of cash or other property, you (or the person you choose) will receive an annuity payment that pays you a fixed amount of money for life. At the death of the surviving beneficiary, the remaining principal in the annuity goes to charity.

A gift is a meaningful way to convey sympathy to the bereaved, memorialize a loved one, commemorate a special occasion, or honor someone. In acknowledgement of your gift, a note is sent to the individual being honored - or the family of those memorialized - informing them of the gift and identity of the donor. The amount of the gift is kept confidential. You will receive an acknowledgement for your gift for tax purposes.

If you would like to list Loyola University Medical Center as a designated charity in a loved one's obituary, we offer the following suggested language: 

• In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation in the memory of (Name of Loved One) to (name of department, program, program, or fund) at Loyola University Medical Center, 2160 S First Ave, Maywood, IL 60153.
