Eligibility
The study is open to adults (18 years and older) with a diagnosis of diabetes who have been taking medications for diabetes (insulin and/or oral antidiabetic agents) at least daily for more than six months. Current frequency of medication dosing began at least three months prior to study enrollment. Patients should self-identify as having adult-onset or type 2 diabetes.
People unable to read, write, and speak English cannot participate in the study. Exclusionary co-morbid conditions include: major psychiatric disorders (not including depression), dementia, Alzheimers, HIV, cancer (requiring chemotherapy or radiation in the last three years), sickle cell disease, multiple sclerosis, and fibromyalgia. Current pregnancy is an exclusionary factor for the study.
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to understand the quality of life for people with type 2 diabetes who take medications (pills and/or insulin).
Treatment
The study is not a treatment. Participants will fill out a questionnaire booklet and complete a finger-stick blood test and return the study packet by mail.
