On WJOL, Dr. Grupski talks about mental challenges of losing weight

Psychologist Allison Grupski of Loyola talks about the mental challenges of losing weight. Often people set themselves up for disappointment by setting unrealistic goals for themselves. The thought of how great it would feel to lose, say, 50 pounds can help us stick to a strict plan for a while, but it is not sustainable.

Dr. Grupski is one of two clinical psychologists caring for patients at the Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care. Loyola's staff knows the pre-op and post-op care as just as important as the operation itself. Patients need to be well educated about what to expect with weight-loss surgery and understand they will have a long-term relationship with their medical team after the operation.
