MAYWOOD, Il. -- Loyola University Hospital is named one of the nation's top hospitals in the May/June issue of AARP's magazine.
Loyola is one of 125 hospitals in the 53 largest metropolitan areas to earn a top ranking. Consumers can visit http://www.aarpmagazine.org for an interactive map of the top hospitals
The list was compiled by the non-profit Consumer's Checkbook, and is based on surveys and government statistics.
Consumer Checkbook sent more than 280,000 questionnaires to doctors in major metropolitan areas, asking them to rate local hospitals. For example, 82 percent of doctors rated Loyola very good or excellent; the average for all U.S. hospitals is 35 percent.
Consumers Checkbook also examined government safety statistics and data on death and complication rates.
Other Chicago-area hospitals to make the list are Evanston Hospital, Rush University Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
