Karen Wright, RN, was promoted to registered nurse in the division of home care and hospice at Loyola University Health System after completing her associates degree and passing her RN state boards; Michael Fressola, RN, MSN, completed his masters of science in nursing and currently works in the intensive care unit at Loyola; Rita Vercruysse, BSN, MPH, earned her bachelors of science in nursing and her masters in public health for her role as case manager of health services in the division of medicine; and Trupti Patel, NP, MSN, earned her masters of science in nursing. Patel works in the division of lung transplant and recently traveled to Ethiopia to care for children who have had valve surgeries.

Loyola nurses give presentations to educate and improve patient care
Ann Briggs, MS, CRNA, presented "Anesthetic Considerations & Implications for Perioperative Nurses" at Loyola University Hospital. The lecture has been incorporated into Loyola's perioperative new operating room orientees' program by OR nurse educator, Debbie Marra, RN. Briggs works in the division of anesthesiology at Loyola University Health System.
Barbara Hering, RNC, MSN, CCNS; Lisa Festle, RNC, MSN, CCNS; Marianne Chybik, RNC, MSN, CCNS, presented "Oxygen with Love: Reducing the Need for Laser Surgery with Oxygen Saturation Targeting" at the 5th Annual Nursing Research Symposium in Naperville, Ill. The poster highlighted the 50 percent reduction in laser surgery for retinopathy in the neonatal intensive care unit at Loyola University Hospital where Hering, Festle and Chybik work. This poster also was presented at the Advocate Christ Medical Center Hope Children's Hospital 32nd Annual Perinatal Symposium in Oak Lawn, Ill.
Connie Giere, RN, presented "Medication Reconciliation" at the Epic Physician and Advisory Council in Madison, Wis. Giere works in the division of information technology at Loyola University Health System.

Loyola nurse runs marathon, achieves significant personal accomplishment
