Emotional day in store as graduates learn where they will serve their residencies
MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Match Day is the most anticipated day of the year for graduating medical students at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine as they learn where they will do their residencies for the next several years.
With the nervous suspense of the Oscars, students will be randomly called, one-by-one, to the front of the room, and receive their sealed envelopes with the names of hospitals that have picked them. Some students will be elated to get their top choices. Others will be devastated.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 18 in the Second-floor Atrium, at Stritch School of Medicine, on the campus of Loyola University Medical Center, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood, Ill.
Students will begin congregating for a light breakfast at 10 a.m.; speeches take place at 10:45 a.m. followed by the distribution of sealed envelopes containing their educational destinations at 11 a.m.
