MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Match Day is the most anticipated day of the year for graduating students at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine as they learn where they will do their residencies and take their next step in their medical careers.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 16, in the second-floor atrium of the Stritch School of Medicine on the Maywood campus, 2160 S. First Ave. Students will gather for a breakfast at 10 a.m. Speeches will start at 10:35 a.m. and faculty awards will be announced. The faculty award recipients will hood the students’ gowns on their graduation day.
The excitement climaxes at 11 a.m. when sealed envelopes containing the students’ educational destinations are handed out. With the nervous suspense of the Oscars, students will be directed to five tables on which will be placed the sealed envelopes, sorted alphabetically by name. Inside will be the names of the medical institutions that will become their “home away from home” for the next several years. Some students will be elated to get their top choices. Others will be disappointed. There will be plenty of screams, kisses, hugs, joyful shouts and tears from the students, their families and loved ones.
SSOM is a closed campus. Media interested in attending the event are asked to call (708) 417-5100 or email firstname.lastname@example.org in Loyola University Health System’s Media Relations Division.
