Loyola Exceeds National Average in Nursing Certifications
Certifications are mark of nursing excellence
MAYWOOD, Ill. -- The number of certified nurses at Loyola University Health System surpasses the national average, which is indicative of nursing expertise. Loyola recently honored these nurses for their professional development standards and competencies.
Our patients should feel confident knowing that our nurses possess skills and knowledge that afford them the highest quality of care, said Paula Hindle, RN, MSN, MBA, vice president, Health Care Services and chief nurse executive. Their expertise contributes to better outcomes for our patients.
Earning a professional certification places nurses among an elite group in their clinical area of expertise. Brett Duebner, RN, and Jennifer Napcil, RN, recently earned their Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certifications. Duebner and Napcil work in the heart transplant and critical care unit at Loyola University Hospital (LUH).

Loyola Nurse Presents at Local Conference
Jackie Kareb, RN, recently presented at the Illinois HomeCare and Hospice Councils Annual Conference. Her presentation focused on supporting home-care clinical practice with evidence. Kareb is the nurse manager in the Department of Home Care & Hospice.

Loyola Nurse Co-Chairs Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America Conference
Lynn Heicher, RN, served as co-chair of education for the nursing track at the 2010 Education Symposium for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America. Heicher is the nurse manager in the Department of Gastroenterology at LUHS.

Loyola Nursing Faculty Publish Study on Matters of the Heart
Holli DeVon, PhD, RN, and Nancy Hogan, PhD, RN, FAAN, published an article in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing titled, Time to Treatment for Acute Coronary Syndromes. Dr. DeVon is an associate professor and Dr. Hogan is a distinguished professor and the associate dean for research at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.

Loyola School of Nursing Faculty Member Accepted to Nurse Leadership Development Program
Tonya Rutherford-Hemming, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, has been accepted as a participant in the Nurse Faculty Mentored Leadership Development Program (NFMLD) of Sigma Theta Tau International. The purpose of this program is to enhance the personal leadership development of new nurse faculty in order to promote faculty retention and cultivate high performing, supportive work environments in academe. Rutherford-Hemming is an associate professor at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.
Loyola School of Nursing Student Honored by the Illinois Dietetic Association
Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing dietetic intern Kelly Sierra was named Outstanding Dietetic Student of the Year in the dietetic intern category by the Illinois Dietetic Association.

Loyola University Health System (LUHS) is a member of Trinity Health. Weinberg Cancer Center at Melrose Park.
