Loyola Expands Hepatology Services to Burr Ridge

MAYWOOD, Ill. – Loyola University Health System (LUHS) has expanded hepatology services with physicians now available at the new Loyola Hepatology Clinic in Burr Ridge.

Scott Cotler, MD, professor of medicine and division director of Hepatology; Jamie Berkes, MD; Eric Kallwitz, MD; Steve Scaglione, MD; and Natasha Von Roenn, MD; now see patients at Loyola Center for Health at Burr Ridge, 6800 North Frontage Road.

“Patients in Burr Ridge can now receive comprehensive liver-care services from a leading liver specialist without having to travel from their hometown,” said Larry Goldberg, president and CEO, LUHS. “Loyola has a national reputation for specialized care and we are pleased to offer clinics throughout Illinois.” 

Dr. Cotler specializes in management of cirrhosis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, liver cancer and other causes of chronic liver disease. Renowned for his clinical translational research in liver disease, Dr. Cotler has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications. He has established a statewide liver-referral system for transplantation.  Loyola offers hepatology services in Moline, Peoria, Rockford, Burr Ridge, Homer Glen, Elmhurst, Park Ridge and Maywood as well as in the Dearborn Station building in the Loop and Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood. 

Dr. Cotler received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago medical center. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Rush University Medical Center and a fellowship in hepatology at the University of Washington Medical Center. He served as chief of the section of Hepatology and professor of medicine at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Dr. Berkes is medical director of Liver Transplantation at Loyola. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed his residency, fellowship and internship at University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Kallwitz received his medical degree from Rush Medical College of Rush University and completed a residency in internal medicine at University of Chicago medical center. He completed fellowships in gastroenterology, hepatology and transplant hepatology at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Scaglione received his medical degree from Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. He completed a fellowship in transplant hepatology at the University of Michigan Health System.

Dr. Von Roenn received her medical degree from Saint Louis University. She completed her residency at the University of North Carolina Medical Center and her fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Cotler, Dr. Berkes, Dr. Kallwitz and Dr. Von Roenn are board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Dr. Scaglione is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
