Loyola Expands Hepatology Services to Peoria
MAYWOOD, Ill. – Loyola University Health System (LUHS) has expanded its hepatology services with physicians now available at the new Loyola Hepatology Clinic in Peoria.
Scott Cotler, MD, professor of Medicine and division director of Hepatology, and hepatologist, Steve Scaglione, MD, now care for patients at the Proctor Hospital Professional Building, located at 5401 N. Knoxville Ave. Ste. 217, in Peoria.
“Patients in Peoria can now receive comprehensive liver-care services from two leading hepatologists without having to travel from their hometown,” said Larry Goldberg, president and CEO, LUHS. “Loyola has a national reputation for specialized care and we are pleased to now branch beyond Chicago to offer clinics in the Illinois cities of Rockford, Moline and Peoria."
Dr. Cotler specializes in the management of patients with cirrhosis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, liver cancer and other causes of chronic liver disease. Renowned for his clinical translational research in liver disease, Dr. Cotler has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications. He has established a statewide liver-referral system for transplantation. In addition to Peoria, Dr. Cotler cares for patients at Loyola offices in Rockford, Moline, Burr Ridge, Homer Glen and Maywood as well as in the Dearborn Station building in the Loop and Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood.
Dr. Cotler received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Rush University Medical Center and a fellowship in hepatology at the University of Washington Medical Center. He served as chief, Section of Hepatology, and professor of Medicine at UIC.
Dr. Scaglione specializes in hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatitis C and fatty liver disease. He received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. He completed a fellowship in advanced/transplant hepatology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He cares for patients in Peoria as well as Burr Ridge, Maywood and in the Dearborn Station Clinic.
Both physicians are board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
