Loyola Pulmonologist Brings Specialized Care to Adults and Children

MAYWOOD, Ill. – Erin M. Lowery, MD, MS, brings her expertise in caring for adult and pediatric pulmonary patients to Loyola University Health System. In addition, she is an assistant professor in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Lowery’s medical interests include cystic fibrosis and lung transplant patients. She is trained to perform bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, central venous catheter placement and pulmonary function testing interpretation.

In addition to clinical care, Lowery is active in research, having received a master’s degree in clinical research methods and epidemiology from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where she also earned her medical degree. She completed her combined residency in adult internal medicine and pediatrics at Loyola University Medical Center, where she also completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care.

She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine-Pulmonary Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine-Critical Care.

She has had numerous articles published in medical journals and has presented her research at professional societies, including the Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant. This spring, Lowery’s research on the detrimental effects of low vitamin D on transplant outcomes will be published in the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.  She is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and is a part of their Junior Faculty Scientific Council. She also is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American Association of Chest Physicians.

Lowery is committed to bringing medical care the underserved both locally and internationally. She has participated in medical mission trips to several locations, including Haiti, Bolivia and Honduras. She currently volunteers her time at the Community Health Clinic in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood.
