What You Need to Know About the Pfizer COVID-19 Booster Shot
October 3, 2021Categories: Community, Health & Wellness
The FDA recently expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to include a booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for millions of Americans.
This booster dose is set to be administered to eligible individuals at least six months after their second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Who is eligible for this booster dose?
The CDC recommends a booster dose for individuals who have received both doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months prior if they are:
- Over the age of 65
- Ages 18-64 with any underlying medical condition
- Ages 18-64 and work in a job that is high risk for exposure to COVID-19
Why should I get a booster dose?
Some viruses, like COVID-19 or the measles, can change over time, making your initial vaccination less effective. Booster help remind your immune system to attack the virus quickly and effectively.
What if I got the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine?
Currently, boosters are only recommended for individuals that have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine and meet the above eligibility criteria.
We expect more information to be coming soon for those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
