Clinical Expertise, Nurturing Environment

Lisa Fogt

Three years ago Lisa Fogt delivered her daughter, Emily, at Loyola, a milestone she recalls fondly due to the expertise and professionalism of her doctor and nurses. Yet as she prepared for the birth of her second child, Lisa faced an important decision: deliver again at Loyola’s main location in Maywood, or follow her physician to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital on Loyola’s Melrose Park campus. Lisa has no regrets about her choice.

“I love my Loyola doctor,” Lisa said, “When she said she was now delivering babies at Gottlieb, I knew I wanted to be there.” What Lisa discovered is Gottlieb’s newly redesigned Birth Center, which features private suites that combine the clinical expertise of Loyola with the comforts of patients’ homes. Lisa remembers feeling like she was at a smaller version of Loyola’s Maywood campus, delighting her and her family.

The new labor & delivery suites offer a relaxing and soothing environment for maternity patients, from providing free Internet access and flat-screen TVs to including couches that convert to sleepers for the father or another support person. Advanced medical technology and supplies required for a safe delivery are out of sight until needed.

Last January, Lisa arrived at Gottlieb at 8 a.m. and delivered her son, Isaac, shortly before 5 p.m. “The Birth Center was quite nice and the nurses were great,” Lisa said. “They explained everything that was happening and made me feel like I was their only patient, looking after my best interests throughout the day.”

“Our room was amazing,” said Lisa. “It was private and had all the comforts of home! Having your own room with your own bathroom is really important. There was a nice, comfortable couch for my husband to sleep, so he stayed with me a lot. And it was a large room, which made it easy for my mom and Emily to be there, too.”

So where would Lisa go if she has a third child? “I would stay with my Loyola doctor, and I’d be happy to go back to Gottlieb.”
