Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Services
The Otolaryngology practice at Loyola is among the top Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) programs in Illinois and in the country. Loyola’s ENT physicians treat children and adults with disturbances in hearing; balance; smell and taste; allergies; head and neck injuries; cancer of the head and neck; voice and swallowing disorders; and sleep disorders. Among the diagnostic tools used are balance testing and the most advanced audiological and imaging equipment.
Loyola has a reputation for achieving excellent results in endoscopic sinus surgery. Other surgical treatments performed include nasal surgery, cranial base surgery and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck as well as implantation of hearing devices for the middle ear and cochlear implants.
Loyola University Medical Center's Ear, Nose and Throat program was rated 25th in the nation for 2014-2015 by U.S. News & World Report. Loyola has four nationally ranked specialties and ranks third in Illinois in the magazine's ratings.
Center for Cranial Base Surgery
The first of its kind in the Midwest, the center was established in 1988 to treat patients with tumors and vascular lesions of the head and neck.
Center for Voice & Esophageal Disorders
The center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the larynx (voice box) and pharynx (throat).
Treatment focuses on children with ENT problems, such as inner-ear infections, hearing loss, complex airway disorders, nasal obstructions, and head and neck tumors. Loyola has one of two major sinus treatment centers for children in the Midwest.
One of the firsts for Loyola’s Otolaryngology department was the introduction of a new, inexpensive outpatient procedure to treat snoring disorders and sleep apnea: laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty.
Research has led to more effective ways to restore hearing, treat incapacitating vertigo, diagnose and treat sinusitis, and treat head and neck cancer with better functional outcomes and preserve hearing in cranial base tumor surgery.
