Loyola University Medical Center offers a one-year PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (9 positions), a one-year PGY-2 Solid Organ Transplant Residency (1 position), and a one-year PGY-2 Critical Care Residency (2 positions). Our programs give residents the opportunity to practice in a nationally recognized academic health system. Residents will have the opportunity to train in countless specialty areas, including adult and pediatric critical care, abdominal and thoracic solid organ transplant, burn and trauma critical care, emergency medicine, as well as general medicine, transplant and general infectious diseases, hematology/oncology, and cardiology.
Our programs are designed to encourage residents to develop the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to become leaders in the pharmacy profession. Residents will work closely with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals on multidisciplinary teams that provide a dynamic environment in which residents will develop confidence in their critical thinking skills and become an integral part of the interdisciplinary team.
Residents will be guided through their residency by preceptors and a mentor of their choice, who will provide support while encouraging them to work and think independently. Residents will also gain research experience by completing a research project under the direction of a preceptor. Furthermore, several required Grand Rounds lectures will help residents develop their presentation skills throughout the year. Finally, with a unique Teaching Certificate Program and with many preceptors also accepting pharmacy students on rotation, residents will also gain valuable teaching experience.
The goal of our training program is to develop well-rounded clinicians with the skills to practice in a diversity of patient-care settings.
