Application Process


The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship Program at Loyola University Medical Center participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for all fellowship applications.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the program, applicants must:

  • Have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency by the start of fellowship.
  • Be board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Hold a valid U.S. medical license before beginning training.
  • For international medical graduates, possess ECFMG certification and be eligible for a J-1 visa (Loyola does not sponsor H-1B visas for fellowship training).

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through ERAS and should include:

  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Personal statement detailing career goals and interest in gastroenterology and hepatology
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from the residency program director
  • USMLE/COMLEX transcripts
  • Medical school transcript
  • ECFMG certification (if applicable)

Selection Process

  • The application deadline follows ERAS guidelines, and applicants are encouraged to submit early.
  • The selection committee carefully reviews applications and invites selected candidates for interviews.
  • Virtual interviews are conducted per ACGME and institutional policies.

Interview Experience

Invited applicants will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet faculty and current fellows
    • Learn about clinical training, research, and career development opportunities
    • Engage in one-on-one interviews
    • Gain insight into Loyola’s culture, facilities, and patient care environment
