MAYWOOD, IL – Five Loyola University Medical Center orthopaedic surgeons have been named to Chicago magazine's 2018 list of "Top Orthopaedic Doctors."
The list, published in the magazine's October 2018 issue, was compiled by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, a healthcare research and information company.
Here are the Loyola physicians on the magazine's top orthopaedic doctors list, along with their areas of clinical expertise:
-
Michael Bednar, MD: Carpal tunnel syndrome, hand and wrist problems and fractures, upper extremity weakness after cervical spinal cord injuries, hand problems in children
-
Terry Light, MD: Congenital hand deformities, pediatric hand injuries, thumb absence, pediatric hand reconstruction
-
William Hopkinson, MD: Joint replacement, arthritis, hip and knee replacement
-
Pietro Tonino, MD: Knee surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery
- Karen Wu, MD: Hip replacement and revision, knee replacement and revision, partial knee replacement
Dr. Wu was featured in a sidebar article in which she offered advice for preventing arthritis of the hip and knee. "Maintain a healthy weight," Dr. Wu advised. "Obese patients have more than two and a half times the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis, and there's probably a higher risk as well with the hip."
Loyola's team of orthopaedic specialists offers comprehensive care to treat rare and complex bone and joint disorders and diseases. Loyola University Medical Center's orthopaedics program is ranked 36th in the country in U.S. News & World Report's 2018-19 Best Hospitals rankings.
Castle Connolly's online nomination process is open to all licensed physicians in the United States. The doctors' educational and professional experience is carefully screened before final selection is made among those physicians most highly regarded by their peers. Doctors cannot nominate themselves, nor pay to appear on the list.
