MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine hospitals and members of Trinity Health – Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital and MacNeal Hospital – have joined more than 100 health care systems throughout the U.S to promote the new #MaskUp campaign.

More than 11.5 million Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus – including an additional one million last week – leading to nearly 250,000 deaths. In Illinois, the number of COVID-19 cases has risen to more than 656,000, and there have been nearly 12,000 deaths.

“The next several months are critical to slowing this current surge of COVID-19 cases, which threatens to overwhelm the nation’s health care system,” said Shawn P. Vincent, president and CEO of Loyola Medicine. “Loyola Medicine is pleased to join the #MaskUp campaign, and to support mask wearing as an easy, effective way to minimize the spread of this deadly virus.”

The #MaskUp campaign consists of public service messages that appeared in national publications, beginning last week, with the message: “As the top nationally ranked hospitals, we know it’s tough that we all need to do our part and keep wearing masks. But, here’s what we also know: The science has not changed. Masks slow the spread of COVID-19. So, please join us as we all embrace this simple ask: Wear. Care. Share with #MaskUp. Together, wearing is caring. And together, we are saving lives.”

Hospitals and health care system are amplifying the #MaskUp message on social media, websites and other digital platforms.
