MAYWOOD, IL – José Biller, MD, FACP, FAAN, FANA, FAHA, chair of the Loyola University Medical Center department of neurology, has been honored with the A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education.

The American Academy of Neurology annually honors an educator who has dedicated their career to leadership, creativity and scholarship. Dr. Biller is the 30th recipient of the award. Recipients of this prestigious award are considered legendary educators in the field of Neurology.

“As a physician and a department chair, there are a lot of things he could be doing with his time, and to prioritize meeting with our residents and students every week demonstrates how truly passionate he is about education,” said colleague Matthew McCoyd, MD, residency program director for neurology at Loyola University Medical Center.

Prior to joining Loyola, Dr. Biller led Indiana University's department of neurology for nearly 10 years. In addition, Dr. Biller has directed the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is a chair for the Certification Council of the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties and the Neuro-hospitalist Section of the AAN. He is a member of the AAN’s International Affairs Committee.

Throughout his career, Dr. Biller has presented at nearly 700 conferences and medical meetings and published more than 350 peer-reviewed articles. Biller is well known for his contributions to textbooks, including Localization in Clinical Neurology, Practical Neurology, and The Hospital Neurology Book.
