MAYWOOD, IL – The Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center has received a $1 million gift from the estate of Jerome Taplin.

The family-focused children's hospital provides a full range of pediatric subspecialty care to infants, children and adolescents.

"We greatly appreciate this generous gift from Mr. Taplin," said Jerold Stirling, MD, chair of Loyola Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. "The funding it provides will enhance the medical and support services we provide to hospitalized children, helping them to lead active, healthy lives."

The 100-bed children's hospital-within-a-hospital includes a neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit and general pediatric beds, along with a family room and a children's playroom. The child life and pediatric nursing staff help make the child's and the family's time at the hospital as comfortable as possible.

Loyola is recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as a Certified Pediatric Critical Care Center for Excellence. The pediatric emergency department is certified by the IDPH as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics.

Mr. Taplin's legacy will benefit Loyola's pediatric patients for years to come. His generosity is an example of the tremendous impact of planned gifts made through wills or trusts.
