Loyola is nationally recognized for stroke care

MAYWOOD, ILLoyola University Medical Center (LUMC) has once again been named a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Each year, IDPH identifies hospitals capable of providing emergent stroke care, allowing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers to transport possible acute stroke patients to these hospitals.

“Loyola University Medical Center is nationally recognized for stroke and neurological care,” said Tad A. Gomez, RPh, MS, FASHP, president of LUMC. “Our exceptional program is serving a critical need in the Chicagoland area.”

Loyola's Stroke Center includes a nationally recognized team of experts in every facet of stroke-related care, including neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neuro-oncology, emergency medicine, rehabilitative services, social work, pharmacy and specialized neuroscience nursing.

Loyola is ranked among the 30 Best Hospitals for Neurology and Neurosurgery in the country by U.S. News & World Report. In 2018, LUMC joined an elite group of hospitals nationwide to be certified by The Joint Commission as a comprehensive stroke center, and for nine consecutive years, Loyola has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Loyola is also the only academic medical center in the Chicago area accredited as a stroke specialty program by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) International.
