BERWYN, IL (April 29, 2021)—MacNeal Hospital received a spring 2021 ‘A’ Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety.

The Safety Grade, considered the “gold measure” of patient safety, is a letter grade assigned to 2,600 general, acute care hospitals across the country based on how well the hospital protects its patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Leapfrog assigns Hospital Safety Grades biannually in the fall and spring. MacNeal is part of Loyola Medicine.

“We are extremely proud of MacNeal Hospital for receiving this prestigious recognition," said Loyola Medicine President and CEO Shawn P. Vincent. “MacNeal is a model for prioritizing safety as part of optimal patient-centered care.”

“Patient safety is our number one priority at MacNeal Hospital," said Charles Bareis, MD, chief medical officer at MacNeal. "This 'A' rating is a tribute to our physicians, nurses and colleagues who provide exceptional care to our patients each and every day."

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, comprised of some of the nation’s leading quality and patient safety experts, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

The Safety Grade is one of many accolades that MacNeal has received over the last several years. In 2020, IBM Watson Health (Truven Health Analytics) named MacNeal a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital. MacNeal also received a 2020 Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke GOLD Plus Award from the American Heart Association.

MacNeal Hospital is located at 3249 S. Oak Park Ave., Berwyn, Illinois.
