MAYWOOD, IL – Paul Prinz, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon who treats a range of orthopaedic conditions, has joined Loyola Medicine's orthopaedics team.
As a general orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Prinz treats conditions including adult and pediatric fractures, rotator cuff injuries, knee injuries and sports injuries. He also performs hip and knee replacements and has subspecialty training in hand surgery, including carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist injuries, fractures and reconstructive surgery.
For the past 24 years, Dr. Prinz has been in private practice, treating patients at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park. Dr. Prinz will continue to see patients at Gottlieb, which is a member of Loyola Medicine.
"We provide patients with the experience and expertise of an academic medical center, along with the convenience of a local community hospital," Dr. Prinz said.
Dr. Prinz also sees patients at Loyola Medicine Burr Ridge.
In treating patients, Dr. Prinz first tries conservative treatments, with surgery as a last option. For example, he treats knee arthritis with treatments such as lifestyle modification, anti-inflammatory drugs, cortisone injections and viscosupplementation injections before recommending surgery.
"I take time to communicate with patients, and listen to them closely," Dr. Prinz said. "I consider patients to be partners in the treatment process."
Dr. Prinz earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and a fellowship in hand surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA.
Dr. Prinz is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and hand surgery. He is an assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
