Orthopaedic Trauma
Multidisciplinary Approach to Treat Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Injuries
Loyola Medicine is designated by the state of Illinois as a Level I Trauma Center. As part of Loyola’s expert trauma team, the orthopaedic trauma team includes experienced, fellowship-trained orthopaedic and trauma specialists. We treat a range of cases, from patients with a single broken bone or soft-tissue injury to those with multiple, life-threatening musculoskeletal injuries (MSI).
The orthopaedic trauma team at Loyola works together with specialists in Loyola’s Burn Center, as well as the departments of plastic surgery, neurosurgery and vascular surgery. This multidisciplinary team is expert in treating even the most complex injuries and fractures.
The orthopaedic trauma program is skilled in treating:
- Bone fractures due to osteoporosis or other injury
- Fractures that don’t heal over several months (nonunion) or heal with deformity (malunion)
- Joint contractures
- Osteomyelitis, or infection of the bones
- Periprosthetic fractures, which occur around an artificial joint or bone
- Reconstruction of complex bone and joint injuries
Loyola also offers state-of-the-art techniques to treat associated injuries to nerves, blood vessels and other tissue.
