About
Zaid Abdelsattar, MD, MS is a highly skilled thoracic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive thoracic oncology and lung transplant surgery. Dr. Abdelsattar has particular expertise in treating patients with lung cancer utilizing state-of-the-art robotic technology and techniques. In addition, he has expertise in the management of benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus and mediastinum. He had completed his residency and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, where he earned the prestigious O.T. Clagett Award for Outstanding Fellow.Dr. Abdelsattar has an extensive background in health services research aiming to improve the national delivery and quality of cancer care to all patients. He completed his research fellowship at the University of Michigan where he obtained a Masters of Science in Health & Healthcare Research. He has authored over 40 publications and book chapters. His research has been published in several high impact journals such as the Annals of Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Cancer to name a few. His research has also been featured on national news. He was awarded the Kaare K. Nygaard Award from the Mayo Clinic for his excellence and research achievements.Along with his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Abdelsattar is passionate about teaching and mentoring the future generations of medical school students, residents, and fellows. He serves as the associate program director of the cardiothoracic surgery fellowship program at Loyola University Medical Center.
