Breastfeeding Class

Comprehensive Breastfeeding Class for New Mothers

Loyola Medicine has experienced lactation consultants to help guide new mothers who are interested in learning how to breastfeed their babies. Loyola is the only academic medical center in Chicago to be named a Baby-Friendly Hospital, meaning that our medical center has been recognized for providing optimal care for infant feeding and mother-baby bonding.

As a Baby-Friendly Hospital, our staff implements a protocol backed by UNICEF and the World Health Organization to help new moms as they learn this acquired skill through our breastfeeding class.

Our consultants hold International Lactation Consultant Association certification and demonstrate a passion for helping young moms interested in breastfeeding. Because it benefits both mother and infant, nursing is recommended for the first year of a baby’s life by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Loyola’s breastfeeding class covers:

  • Body changes during breastfeeding
  • Breast milk storage
  • Common breastfeeding problems and their remedies
  • Continuing breastfeeding while working outside the home
  • Health benefits of breastfeeding
  • How to breastfeed

This class is recommended during the last trimester of pregnancy.
