Why MacNeal?
A strong gut feeling. The people had that ideal mix: being fun-loving and very passionate about what they do. It was apparent that medicine, community, teaching and camaraderie coexisted here. The large underserved and Spanish-speaking population as well as the knowledge and resources provided to take care of them were a big draw for me. Ultimately, I couldn't shake the feeling that this program would provide the guidance, tools, and scope that would allow me to confidently tackle the demands of this profession/

Why MacNeal?
Belonging to an underrepresented group in medicine, I wanted to join a program with a strong tradition of caring for underserved communities in Chicago. The MacNeal family medicine program provides a unique residency experience through its community medicine environment and academic-based learning objectives. Choosing a residency program by virtual interviews was a challenge, but after my first week on service I knew I made the right choice. Faculty provide residents a great balance of responsibility in patient care and guidance when facing unfamiliar medical or socioeconomic challenges. It is a privilege to care for the Berwyn community and I truly feel like I am making a difference each day. I welcome prospective applicants to reach out and ask more about why I enjoy being a member of the MacNeal Family Medicine Residency!

Why MacNeal?
Unopposed training, health equity, and diversity in medicine are very important to me, and MacNeal has active systems in place to ensure all of these are a part of your training. Loyola MacNeal is not only one of the oldest programs in the country, but one that supports your education with unopposed but well-supported medical training to allow you to grow your clinical skills - something that was hard to find in most programs, especially in Chicago. Health equity is fought for with resident and attending run organizations and task-forces, and diversity is reflected in faculty and resident selections.
MacNeal hospital also sees a high acuity of patients and supports underserved and at-risk populations from within and around Chicago.
PS - Free coffee and tea is great too!

Why MacNeal?
Something about the interview day convinced me MacNeal was the one! Being on a virtual interview trail, it was pretty challenging to gauge the community of each program, but I was able to sense the family-like atmosphere between the residents and faculty at MacNeal even through the screen. The faculty and residents at MacNeal are truly welcoming and friendly, a quality I was highly searching for. Also, the hospital is located in such a unique location allowing us to care for a super diverse population as well as reap the benefits of Chicago-living! I feel blessed to be a part of the MacNeal experience and really do believe it will help me become a well-rounded, knowledgeable, and resourceful family physician.
My interests in medicine include: Preventative medicine, Women's health, Pediatrics, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
Outside of medicine, my interests include: Singing/acapella, dancing, trying new restaurants, binge-watching Netflix

Why MacNeal?
I like that MacNeal is a community hospital that provides care to local and underserved communities in Chicagoland. The program is well-established, being one of the oldest Family Medicine programs in IL, and has plenty of resources for residents to pursue professional goals and future endeavors. Some of these resources include a robust sports medicine training, excellent teaching, and a wide range of elective rotation options. It was also important for me to find a place where I could continue speaking Spanish after many years of studying the language. Overall, it is a very well-rounded program with opportunities to tailor resident training.
Interests in Medicine
Diabetes, cardiovascular health, preventive medicine, infectious disease, HIV/AIDS, obesity, sports medicine, mental health.
Interests Outside of Medicine
Running, hiking, visiting national parks, tennis, volleyball, cooking, movies, exercise, ceramics.
