Neurological Surgery Residency

Welcome Message from the Program Director

Anand Germanwala, MD, FAANS

Welcome to the Neurological Surgery Residency Program at Loyola. We offer a seven-year (PGY 1-7) residency program approved to accept one or two positions per year from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Founded in 1977, the Neurological Surgery Program at Loyola has the singular mission to train physicians to become future leaders in the field.

The goal of this academic program is to provide an exceptional experience dedicated to advancing patient care, education, and research. Our seven-year curriculum spans the breadth of clinical neurosurgery as well as provides the opportunity to pursue basic and translational research with dedicated time. We have expert faculty within the subspecialties of neurosurgery and outstanding scientists committed to investigative work. Our approved training sites include Loyola University Medical Center, Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

Loyola University Medical Center is a tertiary care referral center for the city of Chicago and the Midwest region. Patients with a variety of neurosurgical issues are evaluated and treated. Accordingly, our graduating residents are capable of independent practice and successfully obtain coveted attending and/or fellowship positions. We encourage you to explore our website, residency program, and department.
