Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
Diversity, equity and inclusion are core tenets of Trinity Health and the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (SSOM). Within our Psychiatry residency program, our Diversity Council includes residents and faculty who are underrepresented in medicine, as well as allies, with the goal of enhancing the experience of all our trainees and faculty. We are committed to maintaining a professional learning and work environment that respects the dignity of all individuals and is free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, abuse and mistreatment in any form.
Our program is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse group of residents. Interviewers involved in recruitment represent diverse backgrounds and are trained in holistic application reviews and implicit bias. We are proud that our classes reflect diversity in many domains. Furthermore, our program is committed to fostering a human-centered culture of belonging where all trainees and faculty members are heard and valued and can share feedback on their experiences without fear of retaliation.
Our educational curriculum (e.g., didactics, Case Conferences, Journal Club, Grand Rounds) includes instructors and invited speakers representing diverse backgrounds. They teach on topics pertinent to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice, such as cultural humility; healthcare disparities; social and structural determinants of health; organizational culture; trauma-informed care; and stigma.
We believe diversity within our program enriches the professional development of our trainees and faculty, while positively impacting the patients we serve. Annually, our Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) evaluates our program’s efforts in equity, diversity and inclusion and continues to make improvements and develop resources in support of a diverse physician workforce that provides evidence-based, patient-centered care.
