Dr. Mirza was nominated by his peers for his "tireless work in opening up the dialogue between pathologists and their non-pathology colleagues, helping bridge the communicative gap between pathology and other medical fields."
Dr. Mirza is an assistant professor in the departments of pathology and laboratory medicine and medical education of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He is program director for the MS program in medical laboratory science, medical director of molecular pathology and director of the medical student pathology elective. His clinical expertise includes pathology, hematopathology and molecular pathology.
Dr. Mirza is a United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology ambassador, associate editor of AACC Pearls of Laboratory Medicine and a member-at-large of the Central Group on Educational Affairs.
Dr. Mirza completed medical school at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan and graduate school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed a combined residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and fellowships in hematopathology, thoracic pathology and medical education (MERITS) at the University of Chicago.
Other honors Dr. Mirza has received include pathologist-in-training awards from the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology, Society for Ultrastructural Pathology and Society for Pediatric Pathology; 2017 Teacher of the Year for second-year students at Stritch School of Medicine and the pathology residency program; and recent induction to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
