MAYWOOD, IL—Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) has received a Mission Lifeline®-NSTEMI-GOLD 2020 Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). The honor “recognizes hospitals for their outstanding performance in high quality systems care by meeting or exceeding guideline therapy recommendations” in treating patients with a non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or NSTEMI.

An NSTEMI event occurs when the arteries are partially blocked.

“Loyola University Medical Center has long been recognized as a top regional hospital for heart and vascular care, and we are honored to receive this recognition from the American Heart Association,” said Lowell H. Steen, Jr., MD, interim division director of LUMC cardiology.

Loyola is nationally ranked (48th) in Cardiology & Heart Surgery in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-2021 Best Hospital Rankings, and is “high performing” in heart failure, aortic valve surgery and heart bypass surgery.

In 2019, Loyola received the American College of Cardiology's Platinum Performance Achievement award for providing superior care to heart attack patients. In 2018, Loyola’s cardiac care program was recognized as a Blue Distinction Center Plus by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
