MAYWOOD, IL – Monica Maalouf, MD, an internal medicine physician who treats a range of conditions, has joined Loyola Medicine.
Dr. Maalouf provides primary care to adults. In addition to general adult medicine, her clinical expertise includes diabetes, hypertension, STD screening and treatment, smoking cessation counseling and treatment, women's health and care of Spanish-speaking patients.
"I like to get to know my patients in terms of who they are and where they're coming from, so I tend to be very conversational," Dr. Maalouf said. "Patients want to know that their doctor understands their concerns. They feel more connected that way."

Educating patients on the importance of sexual health is a priority for Dr. Maalouf. "It's an important part of people's lives that often doesn't get discussed in the medical office," Dr. Maalouf said. "People find it hard to talk about, so I like creating a space to keep communications open."
Dr. Maalouf said practicing medicine is her chance to give back. "Being a doctor is a great way to reach back and help those who need it the most," Dr. Maalouf said. "It's rewarding to help guide someone to a better quality of life."
Dr. Maalouf earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. She completed a residency in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center.
