BERWYN, IL – MacNeal Hospital recently underwent renovations to their cardiac catheterization lab and stroke unit, with the goal of modernizing technology, equipment and environment and allowing the hospital to more effectively treat patients.
The renovation of the cardiac catheterization lab began in July 2019 with a focus on patient safety and state-of-the-art technology. The project involved collaboration between the physicians, leadership and staff. Highlights of the new lab include an upgraded interventional procedure and imaging system allowing for more precise and effective patient care, as well as other modern technology and software additions.
The newly renovated stroke and medical surgical unit opened in August 2019. The unit is focused on being a collaborative, integrated and professional space for patients being treated for stroke. The renovation added centralized telemetry monitoring to 12 beds, allowing staff to monitor patient vitals even when they are not in the room with them.
The stroke unit includes a multidisciplinary team with physical, occupational and nutritional therapists, speech language pathologists, clinical pharmacists, case managers, social workers, residents, attending physicians, neurologists, rehabilitation psychiatrists and nurses devoted to acute care and work-up for stroke and neurology patients. The team focuses on patient self-management of individual risk factors with the help of a well-rounded and knowledgeable team of professionals. The overall modernization promotes the delivery of high-quality patient care.
