MAYWOOD, IL – Surgeon Michael Woods, MD, FACS, a specialist in urologic oncology, has joined Loyola Medicine.
Dr. Woods treats bladder, kidney, prostate, testicular, adrenal and penile cancers. He also performs complex urinary tract reconstructions, removes retroperitoneal masses and performs continent urinary diversions. Depending on what is best for the patient, Dr. Woods performs both robotic and open surgery.
Dr. Woods sees patients at Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center and Loyola Cancer Care & Research at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center at Melrose Park.
"Patients who have cancer diagnoses often are anxious," Dr. Woods said. "My approach is to counsel them and their families about their options so they can make informed decisions about the best treatment for them."
Dr. Woods is a professor in the department of urology of Loyola Medicine and Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He comes to Loyola from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and director of urologic clinical trials.
Dr. Woods earned his medical degree from Loyola and completed a residency in urology at Loyola and Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive urologic oncology at Tulane.
Dr. Woods previously practiced at Loyola from 2007 to 2011.

Dr. Woods is board certified in urology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
