Newsweek Magazine Names Loyola Among Top 100 Hospitals in the U.S., No. 4 in Illinois
March 15, 2021MAYWOOD, IL – For the third year in a row, Newsweek magazine has named Loyola University Medical Center to its 2021 list of the World’s Best Hospitals. Loyola ranks No. 56 among the 250 U.S. hospitals and No. 4 in the state of Illinois.
Newsweek says the 2,000 hospitals on the 2021 list “stand out for their consistent excellence, including distinguished physicians, top-notch nursing care and state-of-the-art technology.”

Vincent, president and CEO of Loyola Medicine. “Our consistent, top rankings are a reflection of Loyola’s exceptional clinicians and our steadfast commitment to providing outstanding patient care and safety.”
The 2021 Newsweek list was compiled in partnership with Statista, Inc. and based on three data sources: recommendations from medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), results from patient surveys and medical key performance indicators (KPIs).
Loyola was also recently again named to the top hospital lists of two other respected publications.
U.S. News & World Report ranked Loyola University Medical Center No. 4 in the state of Illinois in the 2020-2021 Best Hospitals ranking. Loyola also has five nationally ranked specialties: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (No. 21 in the U.S.), Nephrology (37), Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (45), Cardiology & Heart Surgery (48) and Neurology & Neurosurgery (50). The hospital was rated “high performing” in 11 other specialties, conditions and procedures. To achieve a national ranking, a hospital must be ranked among the nation's top 50 hospitals in a given specialty. A high performing specialty is among the top 10% in the nation.
In 2020, for the seventh year in a row, Loyola was also named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of 100 great hospitals in America. Loyola’s quaternary care facility, level 1 trauma center that houses a nationally recognized burn center, transplant center and a 20-bed unit for stem cell transplant patients were among the reasons listed for inclusion in the 2020 list.
