Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
Comprehensive Primary Care for Adults and Children
Loyola Medicine’s internal medicine/pediatrics program provides comprehensive primary care services for patients of all ages. From routine check-ups to immunizations, health screenings, sick visits and long-term treatment of chronic and complex illnesses such as cystic fibrosis or diabetes, our “med/peds” doctors provide acute and preventive care.
Loyola’s med/peds doctors are dually board-certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and trained in primary care for adults and children. A med/peds doctor has the background to treat general and complex health issues through routine office visits and sick visits. Your med/peds doctor can refer you to a specialist for more advanced care for an illness or condition. Med/peds doctors provide coordinated care for every person in a family and offer guidance on prevention and wellness care.
Why Choose Loyola for Internal Medicine/Pediatrics?
Loyola is proud to offer the services of our med/peds doctors, who provide continuity of care for every member of a family, including infants, seniors and every age in between. Over a period of time, a med/peds doctor will get to know you and your family—not just your illnesses, but also the social, emotional and environmental factors that affect your life and health.
When considering treatment options, your Loyola med/peds doctor will consider your medical and family history, as well as your personal health goals and lifestyle. If you or a family member has a condition that requires more specialized treatment, your med/peds doctor can refer you to a Loyola specialist with the necessary expertise.
As part of an academic medical center, our doctors are trained in using the latest medical knowledge to provide regular health maintenance and recommend preventive health planning—including keeping you up-to-date on cancer screening guidelines and vaccine schedules.

Specialized Programs to Improve Overall Family Health
Loyola offers several specialized services to provide comprehensive care for your family. Med/peds doctors often refer patients to these services as part of a plan to treat a condition, or as additional support for your general well-being:
- Children’s health — Loyola’s pediatricians provide superior infant and children’s healthcare through collaboration with family medicine doctors to diagnose and treat infants and children with particular health problems. While family medicine doctors can perform general screenings and administer immunizations to children, pediatricians also provide specialized care for children.
- Geriatric medicine — Geriatric medicine doctors specialize in the care and health management of adults 65 and older. Geriatricians have the training to recognize and treat conditions that many older adult patients encounter as they go through the aging process. They also coordinate specialized care from Loyola’s award-winning specialists, including cardiologists, oncologists, neurologists and others.
- Immediate care — Loyola’s Immediate Care locations allow you to receive urgent medical attention without an appointment. However, it is not the same as emergency care: there are certain times when immediate care is appropriate (non-life-threatening circumstances) and when emergency care is needed (life-threatening circumstances).
- Women’s services — Loyola’s women's services program focuses on the overall health of women. This program provides primary and specialty services, including preventive tests (such as Pap smears) and leading-edge treatments for complex concerns (such as menopause and gynecologic cancers). Loyola understands that women’s bodies handle health conditions differently than men and require specialized treatment to optimize a woman’s health.
Ongoing Research to Provide Advanced Medical Care for Families
Loyola’s clinicians and scientists participate in a variety of medical research studies with a focus on improving patient care. Past research projects have focused on healthcare for older adult minorities in an urban environment, treating obesity in a school-based setting, family violence and sudden infant death syndrome.
As an academic medical center, Loyola is dedicated to improving future treatments by conducting research on new diagnostics and treatments. Loyola’s patients benefit from research discoveries made here; read about Loyola’s current clinical trials.
