Psoriasis Center

Loyola Medicine's Psoriasis Center provides full-service care for patients with psoriasis. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with psoriasis through clinical care, research and education.

Specifically, we hope to directly apply the knowledge gained by our research and find new and better ways to treat those with psoriasis, as well as educate physicians, patients and their families.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a common condition that causes skin cells to build up, causing red, itchy patches. Psoriasis is a chronic condition for which there is no cure, but there are effective treatments.

As a patient with psoriasis, your symptoms will not always be severe—they will ebb and flow over time.

How is Psoriasis treated?

Your Loyola dermatologist will work with you to find the best treatment for your condition; our main goal is to slow the growth of the additional layers of skin.

For mild cases, an over-the-counter cortisone cream can provide relief; limited exposure to sunlight with the guidance of your doctor can also help.

Topical therapies are effective for mild to moderate cases of psoriasis. For more severe cases of psoriasis, your Loyola dermatologist may recommend:

  • Biologic treatments
  • Light therapy or phototherapy
  • Oral or injected medications
  • Systemic treatments

For our patients with psoriasis, we want to you to know that your Loyola dermatologist’s main goal is to improve your quality of life.

We recognize that psoriasis can be painful and irritating and aim to reduce its impact on your daily life by finding the best course of treatment for you as an individual.
