Diabetes Education Program
Loyola Medicine’s Diabetes Education Program provides comprehensive group and individual treatment programs for adults with diabetes.
Loyola's diabetes program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and follows the ADA's standards of care. These standards are directed toward ideal control of diabetes and prevention of complications.
Services Offered
Loyola provides advanced, multidisciplinary care for patients with diabetes. In addition to physician evaluations and individual treatment programs, Loyola offers educational classes for diabetes patients.
These classes are taught by certified diabetes care and education specialists and cover many topics related to living with diabetes, including:
- Goal setting
- Medications
- Monitoring, prevention, detection and treatment of acute and chronic complications
- Nutrition management
- Physical activity
- Problem solving
- Psychosocial adjustment
- Understanding the diabetes disease process
Loyola’s certified diabetes care and education specialists, working closely with each patient's doctor, develop individualized care plans.
Individual discussions include the areas covered in group classes, as well as preconception care, management of pre-existing diabetes in pregnancy, gestational diabetes and intensive insulin therapy, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring with sensors.
