Welcome to MacNeal Family Medicine!
Thanks for visiting and learning more about our program.
We are proud to be one of the oldest family medicine programs in the country and the first in Illinois. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2019, along with the specialty of family medicine.
We are a 12-12-12 residency and we have fellowships in Sports Medicine and faculty development.
We offer comprehensive family medicine training at a community hospital, affiliated with the Loyola University tertiary care center. Our practice is in a diverse community with urban and suburban patients of all ages.
We developed our resident-centered curriculum to give you the best learning experience, including hands-on procedure training, didactics, and exposure to specialists while practicing full-spectrum family medicine.
We are located in the suburbs of Chicago, close to downtown Chicago and all the amenities of a world class city. The Metra train station is across the street from the hospital.
Our family medicine center is the largest single practice in the Loyola Medicine network, and is located conveniently next to MacNeal hospital.
We have a low core faculty to resident ratio, and all of our faculty practice alongside our residents in the family medicine center. So, your preceptors are also your practice partners. We work closely with our residents and enjoy personally getting to know them.
I am a graduate of the MacNeal residency program. Between my time as a resident, faculty member, and program director, I have spent 27 rewarding and happy years in the MacNeal residency. I would love to tell you more about the program and the wonderful residents and faculty of MacNeal.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Welcome from our Chief Residents!
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in learning more about our MacNeal family. We could not be happier to have matched here and hope you will be too.
We met in the first week of medical school and were married after our third year of medical school. Chris grew up in the southwestern Chicago suburb of Clarendon Hills and Eleanor hails from Alberta, Canada. We couples matched here at MacNeal and feel very lucky to have done so!
During the interview season, we knew we wanted to come to the Midwest after having spent four years on the East Coast, to be closer to family and experience family medicine in Illinois. When we started learning more about the MacNeal FM program, it seemed too good to be true. It is the oldest and largest FM program in Illinois with a well-known reputation of producing strong family doctors in the area. In meeting faculty, residents, and staff during the interview, everyone was so friendly and inviting. It has unopposed training with a robust inpatient adult and pediatrics service, and a newly revamped OB service with increased opportunities for deliveries and learning from seasoned OBGYN residents and attendings. The continuity clinic is located just across the street from the hospital, allowing one to easily walk over during a clinic day to check on our patients who have been admitted. It is the busiest primary care clinic in the Loyola system with a variety of patients ranging from newborns to geriatric patients, wellness checks and management of chronic conditions to acute visits and hospital follow-ups establishing care for the first time. The population we serve feels like the best of multiple worlds, with an urban and underserved population. It feels one is truly filling a need in a community that has welcomed us as their own.
