Welcome from the Department Chair
I extend a warm welcome to all young physicians contemplating a career in anesthesiology. There are abundant opportunities for physicians in this specialty. The primary objective of our faculty is to train outstanding consultants in anesthesiology. We expect our residents to acquire advanced technical skills, extend their depth and breadth of clinical knowledge and develop the ability to make sound clinical judgments. Habits developed here will help our residents throughout their professional careers. Training at Loyola University Medical Center, one of the highest acuity hospitals in the country, provides opportunities for a broad clinical experience in all areas of anesthesiology and pain management.
We strive to train clinicians of the highest order and to develop in them a lifelong commitment to professional growth and improvement.
Our faculty is composed of graduates from many different programs providing the residents with a variety of ideas and concepts for patient management in anesthesiology. We actively search for similar diversity in our residents. There is close cooperation between our department and other departments within the institution, and we maintain congenial and professional relationships with surgeons, nursing staff and administration. Numerous opportunities exist to pursue clinical research interests within the department. An academic experience coupled with an extensive clinical case mix produce the well balanced residency offered by Loyola. Graduates of the program have been very successful in securing careers which fit their personal goals.
We believe the intensive educational experience and excitement of a residency program must have a lasting effect on its graduates. We expect each of our graduates to be outstanding physicians as well as certified consultants in anesthesiology. The faculty and staff are committed to these goals. If the Loyola concept fits your view of a rewarding career in anesthesiology, we invite you to consider joining us.
