How to Apply
Applying to the Orthopedic Surgery Residency
Thank you for your interest in Loyola Medicine's Orthopedic Surgery Residency program. Our program only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and all positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
Applications will be reviewed, and selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Please respond promptly to interview request, as an invitation to interview does not guarantee an interview spot.
Applicants will be interviewed virtually on December 12, 2024 and January 9, 2025.
Our deadline for applications is November 1, 2024 for the PGY-1 residency starting in July, 2025.
We will be recruiting five candidates for the 2025 PGY-1 level.

International Application Requirements
Only applications received through ERAS will be considered, and applicants are required to be ECFMG certified. The Loyola Medicine Orthopedics Residency program sponsors J-1 visas only.

Applying to the Medical Student Clerkship
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Orthopedics Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola Medicine. Your safety and education is our first priority. Like most institutions across the country, we will be following the Coalition for Physician Accountability (COPA) guidelines for Medical Student Away Rotations.
General Information
Fourth year medical students from across the country are invited to join us at Loyola University Medical Center for a clinical rotation to learn more about our program. Each medical student will rotate on two of our orthopaedic subspecialty services.
As part of the rotation, students will attend all conferences and spend time in both our operating rooms and clinics. Students will also assist taking call during their rotation.

Goals and Objectives
By the end of your rotation, the student will be able to:
- Take a complete orthopaedic history
- Perform a thorough orthopaedic physical examination
- Interpret and describe basic orthopaedic radiographic findings
- Concisely present patient findings
- Assist in basic bedside, emergency room, and operating room procedures

Loyola Orthopaedic Surgery Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Scholarship Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine is committed to achieving excellence through equity and diversity. In collaboration with the medical school, The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation strives to create an atmosphere of inclusion and diversity that will help to create a culturally competent healthcare workforce, better equipped to serve the needs of a diverse population. Our scholarship provides financial assistance for upcoming 4th year medical students (class of 2025) who are planning a career in orthopaedic surgery and would like to do a four-week away rotation at our site. Diverse students whose backgrounds and/or identities are underrepresented in orthopaedics are encouraged to apply. The chosen applicants will be given a stipend of up to $2,000 to be used towards their lodging and/or travel expenses.
We will potentially interview qualified applicants via Zoom after applications are received and reviewed. Three scholarships will be awarded for the 2024-25 academic year.

Selection of the scholarship recipients will be based upon consideration of the applicant's academic achievement, leadership, research, orthopaedic interest and academic standing.
