Overview of Endocrinology and Metabolism Services at Loyola
Loyola Medicine's endocrinologists provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of diabetes mellitus, multiple endocrine neoplasia, female and male gonadal dysfunction and other hormonal disorders, including dysfunction of the thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid and pituitary glands.
Our endocrinology team also provides care for patients with bone and mineral disorders, including osteoporosis and Paget’s disease.
Diagnostic services include radioimmunoassay, isotopic imaging, selective venous sampling, chromosome analysis, fine-needle aspiration and biopsy with cytochemistry.

Diabetes Care Center
Adults with diabetes receive individualized treatment from endocrinologists and other diabetes specialists at Loyola’s Diabetes Care Center, which is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. The center holds group sessions taught by certified diabetes educators.
Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center
Loyola’s Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center provides a multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases such as Paget's disease, osteomalacia, hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency and disorders of calcium and other minerals.
Loyola’s endocrinologists take a global approach to preventing, treating and studying bone disease and collaborate with multiple specialists.
While we treat a wide range of metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis represents the overwhelming majority of the cases.
Thyroid Disease Care Center
Loyola’s endocrinologists provide advanced diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease. Thyroid specialists offer state-of-the-art fine-needle biopsy for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules.
In addition, Loyola provides a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of thyroid cancer.
Endocrinology and Metabolism Research at Loyola
Loyola’s basic science and clinical studies focus on the role of blood sugar control in preventing heart attacks and strokes in people with diabetes, the impact of alcohol on reproduction, effects of testosterone on bone disorders and brain metabolism and prevention of bone loss after lung transplant.
