- CT imaging (computed tomography) — CT body imaging is a fast, non-invasive and accurate tool for the examination of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. CT images of internal organs, bones, soft tissue and blood vessels typically provide greater detail than traditional X-rays. Loyola’s expert imaging team provides this technology as a diagnostic and surgical planning tool as it allows your doctor to confirm the presence of a tumor, as well as its size, precise location and involvement with nearby healthy tissue.
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) — MRI body imaging is a non-invasive medical test which uses radio waves and a magnetic field to produce detailed images of your organs, tissues and skeletal system. Your Loyola doctor may request an MRI of your chest, abdomen or pelvis, as well as any part of your musculoskeletal or cardiovascular system. MRI aids your doctor in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of medical conditions and does not use radiation.
- Nuclear imaging — Nuclear imaging uses very small amounts of radioactive materials to examine organ function and structure. Loyola’s radiology experts use nuclear technology to obtain images of the heart and blood vessels, bones, thyroid and other organs, as well as to detect cancer and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
- Ultrasound imaging — Ultrasound technology uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures within your body. These images are used to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases and conditions, as well as to monitor the health and development of an embryo or fetus during pregnancy. Your Loyola doctor may request ultrasound imaging to diagnose conditions in the abdomen, pelvis, thyroid, testes, musculoskeletal or vascular systems. Ultrasound technology is used to diagnose tendon, ligament and muscle tears, tendinitis, masses or fluid collection, sprains, inflammation and hernias.
