Noninvasive Technology for Coronary Artery Disease
Fractional Flow Reserve – Computed Tomography (FFR-CT) is a noninvasive technology developed by HeartFlow Inc. to test for coronary artery disease.
HeartFlow® technology uses computed tomography (CT) scans to calculate how much blood is flowing through the coronary arteries. This test helps to identify whether patients have coronary artery disease before undergoing invasive and possibly unnecessary catheter-based testing.
FFR-CT helps guide treatment strategies and determines if blood flow is being restricted when flowing through an artery. FFR-CT is very low risk and provides accurate information about conditions of the arteries. It can determine whether a specific plaque in a coronary artery is restricting blood flow, thereby helping determine whether a patient would benefit from stents or bypass surgery.
FFR-CT can benefit patients who have experienced symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath, but have not been diagnosed with heart disease.

What to Expect with HeartFlow
Using the FFR-CT technique, a computed tomography (CT) scan creates a digital 3D model of the arteries leading to the heart. Computer models then simulate blood flow within those arteries to assess whether the flow has been restricted by any narrowings or plaque buildup.
HeartFlow technology creates a personalized color-coded 3D map of your heart arteries to help physicians determine, vessel by vessel, if sufficient blood is flowing to the heart.
A CT scan combines a series of cross-sectional X-rays that allows your doctor to visualize your internal organs, blood vessels, bones and soft tissue. CT scans enable doctors to diagnose disease or injury and create an effective treatment plan.
